Wedding day

I love my bouquet in this pic....

Whirl wind

Wow!  The last few months have been so busy.  I really have let my blog kind of disappear.   I sort of lost interest in gardening.  Actually I think I am loosing interest in roses.
On the bright side, I am married now yay!!!!!!! Mark and I finally did it.  It was a small wedding of mostly family.  Then we went to Kauai for honeymoon.  That was really the best time of life.  I was bit with gardening bug again but in a much heavy tropical way.  Every where you look the gingers were blooming and I just fell for them...   I actually have been thinking  of looking into some floral schools for the future.  All the arrangements for the wedding were beautiful and my bouquet was my favorite part.  Amaryllis and calla Lilly's..

Times are changing!

I think we are all healing from our loss of Higgies.  I do not understand why but some things that I was so interested in I will now leave behind.  As much as I have loved growing roses, the time has come to down size the garden and make things a little easier.  I am thinking of taking out my really old rose bushes that just do not seem to preform well any how, and make a few succulant beds.  I will always grow roses but not to the extent that I was.
Now its time to start thinking about how I am going to approach this revamp of my landscape.

garden blah

I just have not felt like gardening lately...  Since Mr. Higgins passed it just feels strange not doing our favorite things together.  Sorry for the lack of posts.  They say it takes time so I am just going with that.  Now I will do my fun past time of looking at all the fun polish blogs I follow.

My beloved Mr. Higgins

On Thursday July 28 we lost the love our lives.  Our beloved Higgy Bear past away.  I never thought anything could be so hard.  Higgy was everything to us.  He was my traveling buddy, gardening buddy, cuddle buddy.  He really was a special guy, so unbelievably smart, he could make any one do what he wanted them too. The most beautiful brown eyes, more beautiful than any rose.  I love you Bubs man......

Pat Austin ( David Austin shrub rose)

I really did love this rose.  Everything from the smell, which is so strong yummy, to the glowing yellow and gold cupped blooms.  The thing with Austins in southern California is that some keep growing and growing and growing.  If you have been to southern California you know that most yards are on the smaller side.  I had to give both of my beautiful Pat Austins away because they ran out room.   This was last year blooming in front of the heavenly bamboo...

Suntruck hybrid tea rose

Sunstruck is truly a special rose.  The gorgeous yellow gold blooms glow in the sun.  If you are an exhibitor, this is a rose you may want to add to your garden.  There is what is called a peakocking through the petals.  It almost looks like there are coral gold veins spiraling through the petal, and did I mention you get quite a few perfectly formed blooms.  It is a very tall rose for me, so plant behind your medium roses or towards the back of your garden.  There is only one fault to this gorgeous rose and that would be the absence of scent.

I am engaged!!!

So I know I have not posted anything for a over a week.  Last week was my birthday.  On Friday night Mark took me to eat at Island Prime.  The location of this restaurant is so cool.  It is on stilts right on the ocean.  I have pictures on my face book page.  After an amazing meal he mentioned that we should go watch the sunset.  We went to a place that you could see the whole sky line of San Diego, and there he asked me to marry him.  I have been all crazy and happy since that day, and totally neglecting my blog. I am so so happy!

Hoot Owl Miniature rose

I am rather fond of cheerful single roses. When I find a miniature single rose I usually have no control and have to have it. Hoot owl is a small miniature single rose with a crisp white eye. What could be more cheerful?

My other is a single white and i have know idea what it is called, i took it from a rose show and shoved in peat moss and kept it most and it rooted.
Polaris is the palest clear pink and has quite a bit of petals. No fragrance. I love the leaves on these rugosas.

petite perl d'or

This tiny rose is a micro miniature.  Micro mini's flowers are usually about the size of my pinkie nail.  They are also a small bush all around.  I liked the way this came out using the fisheye app on my phone.

Teddy Bear Miniature

Teddy Bear is such a unique color. The coloring is almost like a caramel toffee. I personally am really attracted to odd color flowers. I love the muted colors that some people might think ugly. This rose seems to have lost some of its vigor. It really pouted after I moved it from the original spot it was in.
My garden is becoming more difficult to grow things in the back yard because my neighbors have a 70 foot tall tree in a small urban yard. I can not even explain how angry this tree makes me. I must of pulled up over a 100 seedlings this year and every year its seems like there are more. This tree is so invasive and irresponsibly planted. Gahhh!!! OK I am better now..

Astrogemma

Astrogemma is one of my favorite annuals. I start mine from seeds in peat pots first then transplant anywhere I can find a spot for these swaying beauty's to shine. I save the seed pods they produce and use them next year to repeat the cycle. If not massed they may need some support.

heather sproul

Heather Sproul is a warm pink miniature rose with perfect form for exhibition. This miniature for me has a strange growth habit. its very compact in that it does not give me many long cutting stems. A lot of the blooms come on short stems. it does not like to be pruned hard and will produce die back if so.

dorcas (shrub rose)

One of my favorite types of roses would be roses breed by Dr Griffith Buck. This rose here is called Dorcas. It has a beautiful creamy to pink color that is speckled throughout.

I used to have freckles but i had to take her out. It is a similar rose, but I think it needed cooler weather in the winter. She just would not thrive for me.

pretty shrub

This gorgeous tree bush is not what I thought it was . It is however very ornamental, and truly gorgeous. I don't have a name for it. I did think it was from the guava family but i must be mistaken. Its a challenge to find out what this beauty is.

Jacaranda Tree

You can always tell when summer is around the corner in Southern California. One of the signs is a blooming Jacaranda tree. I can not tell you how beautiful these trees are. I see these trees on my jogs and on my way home. They are so lovely.

Honey suckle explosion

Nothing smells better then honey suckle on warm humid day. I have a few different types of honey suckle growing around the yard. This one intermingles with my climbing rose night owl, that is blooming on the other side of the arch.
